Recruitment open: Director of the National Adoption Service and Foster Wales
12 February 2026
Following the announcement of Suzanne Griffiths’s forthcoming retirement in March 2026, we are now inviting applications for the role of Director of the National Adoption Service and Foster Wales.
This is a senior, high-profile national leadership role within the Children’s Services Department of Cardiff Council, with responsibility for providing strategic direction and oversight for adoption and fostering services across Wales.
The postholder will lead two Wales-wide collaborations: the National Adoption Service for Wales, established in 2014 to deliver and improve adoption services through a national collaborative model, and Foster Wales, launched in 2021 to strengthen local authority fostering through a single national identity and shared improvement priorities.
Working closely with local authorities, voluntary sector partners, Welsh Government and key stakeholders, the Director will play a critical role in shaping national strategy, driving service improvement, and ensuring high-quality, consistent outcomes for children and families across Wales.
This role offers a unique opportunity to provide system-wide leadership at a national level, building on strong foundations while guiding the next phase of development for adoption and fostering services in Wales.
Further details about the role, including responsibilities, requirements and how to apply, are available via the application link below. Closing date for applications is 27.02.2026.
