Life Journey Work for Adopters or Family Members

Life Journey Work helps adopted children and young people understand their story in a way that is honest, age-appropriate and supportive. It is an ongoing process that supports identity, emotional wellbeing and understanding as children grow.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Many adopters worry about when to share information, how much to say, or whether they are saying the “right” thing. Life Journey Work is there to support you and your child over time – not to get everything perfect in one moment.

When to reach out for support

It’s okay to ask for help with Life Journey Work. You might want support if:

• You’re unsure what information to share or when.
• Your child is asking new or difficult questions.
• Conversations feel emotionally challenging or stuck.
• You’re worried about how contact links to your child’s story.

Your local adoption service can help you think things through, plan conversations, and find the right support for your family.
