Adopting Together is a new adoption project, which brings together the Voluntary Adoption Agencies in Wales (VAAs) to find families for children who may be waiting a long time for an adoptive family. In addition, Adopting Together brings together expertise from Cardiff University and therapeutic interventions from the Family Place, in Hay-on-Wye.

Singeta Kalhan-Gregory, Project Manager said “Through Adopting Together, we are looking for people who want to create their families with the children who may wait the longest in mind. Most often, these are children aged four and over, brothers and sisters, children who are from a Black and minority ethnic  background,  children with additional needs - such as behaviours that are a result of their early trauma, and children with uncertainty regarding their development.

This ground-breaking model provides specialist adopter recruitment, including adopter-led events, enhanced training for adopters, peer buddying, and customised therapeutic transitions sessions prior to, during, and after the child moves to their forever family. Post placement on-going clinical support is provided through child psychology consultations.  Our model focuses on strengthening your relationship with your child as they move to your family and is offered as early as possible as your relationship grows and develops.  We know this early work will really help to set the foundation for positive life-long relations.”
